Former Chelsea and Inter Milan manger, Jose Mourihno, has admitted he was hours from signing up to manage the English national team.
He says the job was offered to him by the FA, and he had practically accepted before having a change of heart at the eleventh hour.
He reconsidered because of the fact he would not be in competition week in week out and other than playing the odd international every couple of months, he would be watching his players in their domestic leagues and just sat in his office and this did not suit him. He instead pulled out of the deal and waited for the right job to come along, which was eventually Inter Milan who he would go on to win the Champions League with.
I'm sure there are many England fans who will be a bit upset with this news as England have been very inconsistent over the last couple years under Italian, Fabio Capello, and let's not mention the South Africa World Cup debacle.
The charasmatic Potugese manager does still hold hopes of returning to the Premier League in the near future, but to which team? It's rumoured Alex Ferguson will retire after breaking Liverpools record of 19 Premier League titles, many an Arsenal fan are now thinking Arsene Wengers time at the helm must now come to an end and Roberto Mancini is still trying to change history by taking Manchester City in to the Champions League.
